Location Description Kitchener-Waterloo is for all intents and purposes one city, with a combined population of approximately 500,000. Located in the ‘golden triangle’ in southwestern Ontario, its roots have been technological and agricultural, and both continue to factor significantly in the local economy. There are a great variety of opportunities available in the areas of recreation and cultural events. Urban renewal in both downtowns is providing new ways to experience culture and leisure. K-W is also an educational centre, with two universities and one community college. There is a rich mixture of cultures, and Mennonites are a strong part of that diversity.

Required

Self-motivated and willing to take initiative while at the same time strongly collaborating with the Communications and Social Enterprise teams

Excellent oral and written communication skills required

Excellent computer skills and competency with Microsoft required

Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail required

2+ years of University or College level education in communications, marketing or related field or commensurate mix of expertise and experience

Excellent grasp of social media and website metrics and best practices

Excellent grasp of Facebook Ads / Google Ads platforms

Understanding of traditional and digital marketing such as SEO/Social media etc. and market research methods

Ability to develop marketing strategy and campaigns

Strong interpersonal skills with people of all ages and backgrounds

Willing and able to work with a variety of people in a friendly way

Healthy balance of patience, humour and energy

Heart for justice, active peacemaking and global understanding

Police check will be required once hired

Must be able to legally work in Canada

As this role is funded through Canada Summer Jobs,

To be eligible, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,

Job Synopsis This position will be responsible to develop a strategy for MCC’s Communications and Social Enterprise team to increase responsive engagement with a new and younger generation. This will include reviewing existing MCC initiatives, researching competition, developing customer and supporter personas using a variety of tools (online research, white papers, focus groups, etc) and ultimately presenting a plan that can be executed to increase MCC’s engagement with youth and young adults.

This position is accountable to the MCCO Communications and Events Senior Manager and requires a high level of collaboration with the Social Enterprise Team.

This is a 12 week contract, 35 hours weekly sponsored by Canada Summer Jobs.

MCC supports activities that provide emergency assistance, reduce poverty, and promote healthy communities, sustainable living and alternatives to violence. Key Responsibilities • Review and determine effectiveness of current MCC youth and young adult engagement initiatives

  • Research competition
  • Develop youth and young adult Thrift customer and MCC supporter personas using a variety of tools that may include but are not limited to online research, white papers, focus groups, surveys
  • Use these reviews and research to develop a creative plan to increase MCC’s engagement with youth and young adults which may include but not limited to social media, earned media, and paid media
  • Additional duties as required

Other

  • Participate in MCCO orientations, provincial meetings, and annual meeting
  • Participate in a local faith community, being willing to use his/her personal gifts within this community and model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful interaction with others
  • Maintain a high level of integrity, reflecting Christian respect and Christ’s unconditional love to those with whom you work, including colleagues, partner agencies, the homeless and marginalized
  • Answer inquiries about MCC from constituency and general public; communicate MCC’s values, articulating the importance of MCC’s criteria for workers, all of whom serve as representatives of the Mennonite and Be in Christ churches which support MCC
  • Model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful daily interactions with staff and the public
