Description
Outreach Workers work in a team to provide client services for homeless and other marginalized individuals, network with other community service and health agencies, and maintaining a client record database.
HOURS:
- 16-40 hours per week, for 11 months.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Takes responsibility for routine intake processes and decisions, following standard procedures.
- Attempt to seek out clients needing support in the community and connecting them with appropriate programs on the Coast.
- Record all methods of communication with clients daily in case files.
- Advocate on behalf of clients where appropriate.
- Develops case histories for all outreach clients.
- Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g. welfare, police, parole, urgent situations).
- Works with government and community funders to ensure funding is in place.
- Conducts comprehensive program orientation for all clients/residents.
- Fosters positive relations with community social services agencies/resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- Up to two (2) years of community college.
- Certificate or Diploma in Human Sciences/Addictions.
- NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of prior related experience including, frontline work in a social services setting/experience in a related field.
Other Requirements:
- Excellent writing and oral skills
- Solid administrative skills
- Training in Crisis and Skills that focuses on the prevention of homelessness.
- Understanding of the needs of victims of absolute homelessness
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to:
- Physical attacks by others (i.e., potential attack by a client).
- Exposure to infectious diseases.
- Sharp objects.
- Other dangerous situations.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent.
- Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC).
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- A clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
- Universal Precautions
- Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
- Appropriate immunization and vaccinations.
