        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

Assists, at the Cook’s direction, the prepping and serving of all meals.  Ensures the food preparation areas and dining room are clean and hygienic, all food are stored safely and all food-handling techniques are followed.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in preparing and serving meals as directed by the Cook
  • Cleans the dining room, kitchen, prep area, storage room which includes the floor, tables, chairs, beverage area, mug and utensil storage area and floors
  • Complete inventory of received goods, sort and safely store all items as per standards
  • Rinse and process dishes, utensils, trays etc. through dishwasher, ensuring a continual adequate supply is available for use
  • Removal of garbage and cleaning of bins
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned within the job classification

Health and Safety:

  • Adheres to all health and safety policies and procedures in place; complies with all instructions from the employer concerning health and safety as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WSIB
  • Ensures all procedures, rules and guidelines for the safety and security of clients and staff are enforced and respected
  • Must wear non-skid CSA approved Safety Shoes

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The job requires a frequent amount of standing, preparing foods, moderate amounts of lifting, cutting, chopping, carrying supplies and walking
  • Regularly required to lift and carry items up to 10 pounds unaided
  • Occasionally required, with help, to lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Occasionally required, with the aid of proper equipment, to push/pull skids of food up to 200 pounds
  • May deal with angry and abusive clients
  • May encounter verbal abuse

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma; successful completion of a recognized certificate in cooking and/or meal prep a strong asset
  • Current certification in – City of Ottawa approved Safe Food Handlers

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge and proven ability to carry out basic cooking techniques
  • Less than 2 years recent experience working in an institutional kitchen setting preferably serving a marginalized/vulnerable population

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Good organization skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Non-skid CSA approved Safety Shoes are required
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities

HOURS:  1Saturday and Sunday 6:30am – 3:00pm

2- Saturday to Monday 10:00am – 6:30pm
