        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

The Pathway of Hope/CFS Intake Worker will assist families who are seeking aid and assistance from, or have been referred to, the Centre of Hope Community and Family Services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Food Bank

  • Meet clients and complete intake as per Community & Family Services processes
  • Receive and sort products as they arrive in the Centre when not working with clients
  • Ensure all food items are fresh and remove any items which may become stale dated
  • Serve up to 50 clients daily
  • Pick, pack, and bring the appropriate amount of groceries to clients
  • Responsible for the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the food bank
  • May be required to pick up donations from donor as needed

Pathway of Hope

  • Pathway of Hope case worker will be trained in the Pathway of Hope program
  • PoH case worker will meet potential participants and complete the pre-screening assessment
  • PoH case worker will assist participant family in developing an action plan, and provide ongoing support
  • PoH case worker will utilize internal supports to help the client achieve goals. This will include referrals to internal services including the CoH spiritual care supports
  • PoH case worker will collaborate with external service providers to ensure clients have access to services they need

Client Services

  • Verifies clients meet any potential eligibility criteria
  • Obtains appropriate documentation and signed release forms as required under the Privacy Act legislations (latest revision)
  • Identify and assess client needs, considering the whole person/family unit including practical, emotional and spiritual needs
  • Provide written and verbal referrals to other agencies and workers when appropriate
  • Deliver services in accordance with established protocols; this includes, but is not limited to:
    • Issue of food bags, clothing vouchers, furniture referrals, and offer other services as directed, including recommendations for financial assistance etc.
    • Information regarding other appropriate services provided by the CoH, including spiritual care, and other counselling services.
    • Service and follow-up support to emergency response victims as required, at the direction of Divisional EDS Coordinator.
  • Responsible for ensuring the CFS office is welcoming while allowing clients to maintain their dignity

Administration:

  • Inputs client information in all appropriate electronic systems
  • Maintain complete, accurate, up to date documentation in case files
  • Maintain the activities required for effective delivery of the Pathway of Hope program
  • Maintains accurate and up to date statistics
  • Assists in tracking and monitoring of actual assistance versus program budget and identifies potential exceedance of budgets in advance
  • Prepares any necessary forms and letters relating to CFS emergency assistance
  • Assists with seasonal programs and services as directed by CFS Coordinator
  • Provides relief reception duties when requested

Community Liaison:

  • Networks with community partners, including other Salvation Army units, who are referral agencies and/or sources of assistance for clients;
  • Maintain contact with external community resources
  • Attends community meetings as requested by the Coordinator of Community and Family Services

Health and Safety

  • Adheres to all health and safety policies and procedures in place; complies with all instructions from the employer concerning health and safety as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act and appropriate governmental agencies
  • Ensures all procedures, rules and guidelines for the safety and security of clients and staff are enforced and respected

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Relevant post-secondary in social services or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum one year’s experience working with a similar disadvantaged client population in an urban setting, effectively identifying and assessing their individual needs.
  • Experience in working cooperatively with community resource agencies, particularly in negotiating and advocating for client’s needs.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Strong written documentation and correspondence skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 20 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be able to tolerate being physically active for long periods of time.
  • Valid driver’s license is an asset.
  • Provide a current clear police background check for the vulnerable sector
  • Clearance through the Salvation Army internal abuse registry and be willing to sign the Salvation Army Code of Conduct Receipt & Acknowledgement Form

TERM: Full-time permanent; 35 hours per week
