Work Arrangements

The Music Department is seeking to hire a probationary regular instructor to teach the Music history survey courses in our University Transferable Music Diploma programs for the 2021- 2022 academic year.

The position is half-time (4 courses per academic year) and starts August 16, 2021.

For Fall 2021, we anticipate these courses will be delivered in person.

Workload is assigned each year based on available sections.

The Role

Regular Probationary Faculty – Music History

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • teaching all four survey courses in the history of Western art music: MUSC 1120, 1220, 2320, 2420.
  • assessing and evaluating students’ progress and achievement.
  • overseeing curriculum revision and development in music history.
  • working with the library to ensure currency and relevance of music history resources.
  • attending departmental meetings, sharing in departmental responsibilities, and participating in committee work.
  • maintaining currency in the field through professional development activity.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need

  • A Ph.D. in Musicology, or equivalent
  • Mastery in the literature of Western art music from the Greeks to the present
  • Familiarity with popular, jazz, world, and Canadian music
  • Current knowledge of pedagogical approaches in music history
  • Demonstrated success in teaching music history at the post-secondary level
  • Familiarity with online and audio/visual resources for music history
  • Evidence of ongoing research and/or other scholarly work in music
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with others in a respectful manner
  • Successful completion of administrative and organizational tasks.

Experience with online delivery of Music history courses will be considered an asset.
