This is a casual relief position with no guaranteed hours. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable
shifts include a ½ hour paid meal break.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct initial screening of client seeking admission ensuring individual behavior is of acceptable standard per Policy and Procedure manual.
- Complete client intake by assisting the client complete the Social Services intake form.
- Conduct a daily check of client information correcting any errors.
- Register clients, assign bed and provide towel if required.
- Using discretion distribute prepared bag lunches according to approved procedures.
- Complete incident reports and documentation before completing shift.
- Answer telephone and provide inquirer with necessary direction.
- Complete hourly security rounds of Main floor, Dining Hall, Kitchen and client rooms; checking washrooms fire exits, doors and exterior of the building.
- Responsible for client’s snack.
- Give back belongings to discharged clients.
- Make referrals to other community agencies as needed.
- Record activities and incidents occurring during shift in a factual and concise manner using Log Book and/or Incident Book.
- Contact emergency service personnel (ambulance and police) when needed.
- Maintain confidentiality with regard to clients/staff and Centre’s records.
- Demonstrate knowledge of The Salvation Halton Lighthouse Policy and Procedures Manual.
- Work within mandate and mission of the Salvation Army.
- Perform other position related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Post-Secondary education such as Social Service Worker Diploma.
- Previous experience working in a social service setting.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills and effective interpersonal skills.
- Competent on computer equipment such as Windows, Microsoft Office, HIFIS etc.
- Ability to establish and implement goals and plans for self and clients.
- Maturity and ability to exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to work with socially disadvantaged people who may often harbor resentment and anger.
- Ability to work both independently and under supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and under supervision.
- Ability to lift/move up to forty (40) pounds.
- Demonstrates knowledge of Community-based resources.
- Possess current WHMIS, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
- Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
- May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
