Sessional Instructor, Heavy Mechanical Programs

Job Summary

The Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies invites applications for an instructor in our Heavy Mechanical Program. Under the general direction of the Director of the School of Trades, Faculty of Applied & Technical Studies, the Instructor will organize, develop, manage and instruct courses in the Heavy Mechanical Apprenticeship Levels 2 through 4 as well as the Heavy Mechanical Foundation Program as required. This program is offered at the Trades & Technology Centre in Chilliwack, BC.

Qualification

The successful candidate will be a dynamic individual, fully certified in the Heavy Duty Equipment or Commercial Transport Trade, combined with minimum of 7 years relevant and current industry work experience. The ideal candidate will have a diverse background including a high level of knowledge and exposure to the latest technology used in the heavy mechanical industry today.

The candidate will have a thorough background and experience in diesel engines, including rebuilding and failure analysis, operation and servicing of all types of diesel fuel systems, vehicle electrical and electronic systems (CAN bus) used in modern machinery. Knowledge and experience in the service and repair of powertrain systems including, clutches, manual transmissions (Roadranger specifically), automated manual transmissions, automatic and powershift transmissions, drivelines, differentials and final drives.

Preference will be given to individuals with additional certifications related to this trade; evidence of on-going upgrading; knowledge of the BC Apprenticeship system, and evidence of leading people towards a common goal in a diverse working environment.

This position requires someone who will commit to the on-going development of the Heavy Mechanical Program and has demonstrated abilities for writing lesson plans and exam questions; developing presentations; as well as marketing and promoting this program. Preference may be given to candidates who are enrolled in or have completed the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program.

The successful candidate will possess strong leadership qualities; supervisory experience; good interpersonal skills; excellent communication skills; and a working knowledge of computers and various software applications. Applicants who have demonstrated a commitment to creativity, innovation and/or the application of technology in the delivery of educational programs will have an advantage.

Applicants should have a demonstrated ability to teach and support the diverse student population served by UFV as an open access university. Experience in developing and delivering educational programming to both Indigenous and International populations is an asset.
