        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

The Shelter Manager is responsible for the efficient operation of all Emergency Shelters, including staffing, equipment, supplies and inventory, and client relations.

Hours:

  • Normal work week – Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week
  • Flexibility in hours/days is expected
  • 3-month contract with possibility of extension

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervision of Emergency Shelters operations and Shelter Workers in accordance with TSA
  • Participates in the development and application of Shelter policies and operations
  • Able to demonstrate professionalism and commitment to TSA Operating Principles for Shelters
  • Plays a lead role in the hiring, the training, coaching, and mentoring of Shelters workers
  • Conducts regularly scheduled staff and supervisory meetings.
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations of shelter workers
  • In conjunction with the Shelter Supervisors, creates Shelter staff schedules, authorizes vacations, and tracks attendance and absenteeism
  • Oversees replacement coverage for absences due to illness or other reasons
  • Participate and/or delegate involvement in regularly scheduled Occupational Health and Safety meetings.
  • Monitors staff safety practices in compliance with health and safety standards, and prepares, submits and acts on incident reports
  • Provides additional statistical and evaluative information when required
  • Participate in the response to shelter client grievances and complaints
  • In conjunction with Shelter Supervisors monitors shelter logs, bed reports, and statistics that are generated by shelters staff
  • In conjunction with Shelter Supervisors, monitors the ordering and delivery of shelters inventories and supplies.
  • Monitors the need for shelter maintenance and repairs and communicates same to Maintenance Management
  • Networks and represents The Salvation Army Ridge Meadows Ministries with community agencies and other appropriate organizations and forums
  • Participates in strategic planning, budgeting and program improvement initiatives
  • Ensures the cleanliness, maintenance, and upkeep of the shelters and surrounding grounds
  • Performs other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completed an Undergraduate degree (e.g., B.A., B.Sc., B.Sc.N) or an alternative level of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s in the appropriate discipline (as required by funding contact/s)
  • Minimum one year of prior related experience, including, experience in a specialized social services program, inclusive of some supervisory experience and communicating orally and in writing
  • Current certification in First Aid/CPR (or willing to be trained)
  • Criminal Record Review Program clearance

Experience:

  • Two to three years of experience including working in shelters/housing for the homeless
  • Minimum one year of supervisory or managerial experience

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Willingness to adhere to the Mission and Values of The Salvation Army Ridge Meadows Ministries
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills, effective listening skills, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards the homeless and individuals with substance abuse and concurrent problems, including mental health concerns
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and document creation
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and a variety of demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexible, self-motivated, adaptable

  • A valid Class 5 (or higher) BC Driver’s License and a clean driver’s abstract
