Description
Reporting directly to the Business Manager, this role is suitable for someone interested in community services, social work, or other community support programs, and in media, marketing, or filmmaking. The candidate will gain an understanding of how our services impact the community we serve and the role of our volunteers in providing these services. The candidate will be responsible for preliminary research, drafting and presenting interview questions and the plan for execution, scheduling and conducting interviews with volunteers and clients, and editing and producing a final media project. This will involve an initial immersion in each department to learn and understand the role of each department in providing community services.
HOURS:
- Monday to Friday, from July 5, 2021, to August 27, 2021
- 30 hours per week, between 8.30 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Researching similar promotional materials produced and distributed by TSA and other non-profit community services.
- Researching public response to similar promotional materials.
- Drafting an outline for the media project, including:
-List of targeted interviewees.
-How the project can be used.
-Required media release forms, ethics considerations, etc.
-Content/prompt questions for the interviews (e.g. impact of services (clients), why do people help The Salvation Army (volunteers).
- Present outline to Corps Officers and/or Business Manager and edit/adjust until the final plan is achieved.
- In coordination with Food Bank Coordinator and Soup Kitchen Supervisor, plan interview times, locations, and individuals.
- Conduct and record interviews.
- Edit footage, and compile it into a video or series of videos suitable for marketing.
- If taken, edit photos to be suitable for marketing.
- Present completed project to Corps Officers and/or Business Manager and edit/adjust as required.
- Maintain a positive work environment and strict confidentiality.
- Other related clerical and administrative tasks as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- Minimum one year of post-secondary education.
Experience:
- Previous experience working or volunteering in a community/client services organization would be helpful.
- Exposure to multi-barrier individuals.
- Research and reporting.
- Project planning and execution.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Able to work within a team environment.
- Self-directed and able to work independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent eye for detail.
- Highly organized.
- Able to use video recording and equipment and editing software.
- Excellent computer skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Working directly with and/or interviewing multi-barrier individuals.
- Successful completion of a similar research project with the video end product.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
