Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

  • extensive academic training, professional preparation and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment
  • knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education’s current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment
  • academic training in Physical Education
  • demonstrated thorough and extensive knowledge of, and successful teaching experience in Physical Education
  • demonstrated experience in teaching English at the secondary level
  • demonstrated experience in teaching Social Studies at the secondary level
  • demonstrated experience and commitment to leading school-wide athletic events with student leaders
  • demonstrated ability to be goal-oriented and results focused and to meet goals set by the physical education and athletics departments
  • demonstrated ability to suitably employ a variety of instructional strategies, including regular formative assessment, to achieve the desired learning outcomes in physical education
  • demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues both verbally and in writing
  • demonstrated ability to recognize and acknowledge individual student differences in physical education and athletics and to adjust instructional practices accordingly
  • demonstrated experience with the RTI framework to support student learning
  • demonstrated ability to motivate and provide success for students who experience difficulties with physical education
  • proven commitment to improving the health and fitness of young people
  • demonstrated knowledge and understanding of adolescent development
  • demonstrated commitment to building positive relationships with adolescents in a school setting
  • demonstrated commitment to use technology for teaching and to communicate consistently and effectively with parents and students
  • demonstrated use of highly successful instructional strategies in the classroom that support personalized learning
  • demonstrated commitment to and engagement in lifelong professional and personal learning
  • commitment to working with parents as partners in student success
