POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The permanent teaching assignment will commence September 7, 2021.

The Literacy Teacher will be responsible for leading and supporting the implementation of collaborative and

coordinated early literacy programming in classrooms from Kindergarten to Grade 3. The teacher will promote

and support application of current, research-based tools for screening, intervention, and small group and whole

class programming related to phonological awareness, orthographic mapping and language acquisition.

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • possess a permanent Manitoba Teaching Certificate
  • a minimum of five years’ teaching experience in an early years classroom
  • post graduate training in literacy (preferred); education in progress may be considered
  • experience working with phonological awareness, early and later literacy, reading assessments, guided

reading, levelled texts and balanced literacy

  • demonstrated experience in collaborative practice including the use of collaborative cycles of inquiry
  • knowledge of the Response to Instruction (RTI) Approach and the Collaborative Co-Teaching Approach
  • must be able to participate as a contributing member of the school-based literacy leadership team
