Business Development Advisor

Position Summary:
Reporting administratively to the Associate Director, Business Development, HBHL, the incumbent will build new and strengthen existing external relationships with private industry, spanning from small start-up companies to large corporations, as well as non-for profit organizations, with the aim of developing joint projects and initiatives. The Business Development Advisor (HBHL) will build projects and initiatives in the interface between industry and academia.

They will maintain strong internal relationships with the Office of the Vice-Principal (Research and Innovation) and the Office of Sponsored Research (OSR). In addition, in support of a unified approach to business development in neuroscience across McGill, and ensure coordination on specific relationships or opportunities with other business development teams in McGill research centres. Ensuring strategic alignment by using judgment and being selective to pursue appropriate business development leads and to steer engagement with industry partners to align with HBHL goals, as well as research and knowledge translation priorities.

Primary Responsibilities:
Spearhead business development initiatives and initiate relationships with various external organizations and HBHL partners.

Develop new and existing relationships with corporate partners, start-up business opportunities, access to research centres institutes and programs, connections to faculty expertise, facilities and equipment, networking events, and other HBHL activities and programs that respond to corporate needs and interests.

Oversee implementation of short- and long-term plans related to the business development for HBHL in the area of neuroscience.

Drive the development and implementation of revenue generating initiatives strategically using the areas of strength of HBHL.

Provide guidance to researcher and help to develop proposals for third party co-funded projects/initiatives in collaboration with Faculty and staff members and follow through on their implementation.

Own and drive business development initiatives including all outreach, communications, follow-ups, etc.

Increase the reach and visibility of HBHL and its partners by using innovative approaches.

Responsible for setting goals and developing strategies to reach those goals and reporting on effectiveness of business development initiatives.

In collaboration with the Associate Director, Business Development, HBHL, and McGill faculty members, participate to the establishment of a database of research and commercialization opportunities that can be adapted and used in various contexts.

Actively engage with McGill researchers to develop a deep understanding of the expertise at the University, to match companies to HBHL priorities, researchers and funding programs.

Engage in market research in order to identify new opportunities for collaborative, third-party funded projects and initiatives.

Support the Associate Director, Business Development with environmental scans (data and trends).

Contribute to a unified approach to business development in neuroscience across McGill by ensuring close collaboration between HBHL and business development teams in McGill’s Office of Sponsored Research, Research and Innovation, University Advancement, and International Relations, as well as other business development teams in McGill research centres.

Represent HBHL and/or McGill at internal and external meetings and events.

Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree 5 Years Related Experience /

Annual Salary:
(MPEX Grade 07) $79,200.00 – $118,800.00
