HRfx Consulting is representing our client, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Vancouver (HFHGV) (http://www.habitatgv.ca), is seeking an innovative, passionate and respected leader to serve as Chief Executive Officer based in their offices in Burnaby, BC.

Job Summary:
Reporting to and collaborating with the Board of Directors, the CEO will amplify HFHGV’s relevance in the community, will provide active leadership and will leverage their network to influence and build organizational capacity with the ultimate goal of providing more families with affordable housing. The CEO will carry out their mission, vision and mandates, all while ensuring the organization continues to be accountable to its diverse constituents.

The ideal candidate will be a values-driven leader with strong local influence, a compelling communicator/relationship builder, experienced in achieving results and has skills in fundraising, development and finance. Other qualities the candidate will bring to this role include integrity, a strong sense of accountability, a practical ability to execute on deliverables, superior communication and collaboration skills and a demonstrated ability to strategically manage organizational growth. Above all the CEO must care deeply about the plight of families living in poverty and substandard housing and believe that HFHGV can and must make a difference.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Provide visionary leadership to help increase the visibility of HFHGV and reinforce its role on issues related to housing and poverty; serve as the chief spokesperson and advocate to the media and public.

Actively participate in business and community forums to elevate and evolve the role of HFHGV in housing conversations and position HFHGV as a subject matter expert and collaborator in the governmental, development and non-profit housing realm

Lead the organization to establish strategic objectives and lead the regional implementation of this plan within the context of the organization’s overall mission.

Ensure creative and proactive approaches to identify and secure land, projects and opportunities that will allow HFHGV to build their capacity and to provide homes for families.

Collaborate with senior staff and the Board of Directors to set budget priorities as well as appropriate fiscal and operational policies and procedures to meet revenue targets and cost objectives through current and new fundraising programs.

Direct and execute all activities of HFHGV either directly or through delegated authority.

Oversee the compensation, performance assessment, leadership, talent development and succession planning of senior management.

Maintain a positive work culture that is conducive to attracting, retaining and motivating top-quality and diverse employees at all levels.

Continually challenge executive officers and all employees of HFHGV to think strategically.

Foster an organizational culture that promotes ethical practices, encourages individual integrity and social responsibility, and delivers a sustainable future for HFHGV.

Oversee HFHGVs Strategic Plan with responsibility for providing the Board of Directors with regular updates and metrics to track progress over time.

Develop and recommend yearly budgets for Board approval and prudently manages the organization’s resources within these budget guidelines according to current policy, laws and regulations.

Lead the development of a fair and consistent mortgage management program.

Direct and oversee the strategic effort to expand revenue generation, funding development, in-kind contributions and grants to support existing and future programs.

Ensure the senior leadership team continues to enhance the Restore Retail Program’s profitability and provide strategic recommendations to build this portion of HFHGVs business.

Leverage existing relationships with the public, investment community, government, affiliated organizations, and other stakeholders to garner funding commitments.

Build robust and strategic partnerships in new markets with political and community leaders, to grow funding opportunities.

Represent Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver within the Canadian Federation and engage with Habitat Canada’s Framing the Future strategic plan as required.

Engage with Habitat for Humanity in BC Caucus for development of shared resources.

Build partnerships and leverage resources from Habitat for Humanity Canada.

Build productive working relationships with the Federal and Provincial government, BC Housing, CMHC, as well as local municipalities.

Work closely with Board of Directors and sub-committees to realize organizational growth, evolution and external advocacy.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 8 years of senior management experience. Experience in the field of philanthropy, not-for-profit management and governance, and community relations is preferred.

Strong network in the Greater Vancouver market, in particular in the development or philanthropic sphere

Post-secondary degree, ideally in business, management or public/social policy.

Experience in Real Estate, Development or Construction.

Experience with Government at various levels will be a valuable asset.

Considerable experience in financial analysis for decision-making, preparation and reporting of financial matters.

Strong marketing, public relations, and fund development experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.

Excellent organizational management with the ability to provide financial control and set and achieve strategic objectives.

Experience dealing with vulnerable populations.

Proficiency with MS Office.

Strong communication skills, with an ability to lead and motivate teams.

Ability to deal with the pressure of a demanding, fast-paced work environment.

Experience managing and building a team’s organizational capabilities

Expertise in fundraising leadership.

Experience working with and motivating large volunteer and donor groups.

Experience working with, and a passion for addressing issues of affordable housing and poverty.

Understanding of policy and program decision making within the public sector as it relates to housing and funding.
