Description
This is a casual relief position with no guaranteed hours. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 6:00am to 6:00pm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare meals as required.
- Make use of and decides on best use of resources, including donations to minimize
- Ensure that Department of Health and Fire regulations are adhered to in the kitchen and food storage areas
- Maintain cleanliness of all equipment, drawers, and cupboards and clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, and utensils.
- Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas.
- Adapt work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services.
- Ensure adherence to the posted menu plans; special dietary concerns of those eating in establishment
- Document and record menus etc. in compliance with licensing requirements
- Follow guidelines for the safety and security of food and equipment and monitor practices to ensure adherence
- Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment, report any equipment issues to supervisor.
- Maintain sanitation, hygiene, health and safety standards and safe handling of foods while performing duties.
- Adhere to fire and health and safety standards pertaining to the kitchen and other areas of the facility.
- Perform other position related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed Secondary School, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months
- Cook’s papers, one (1) year course.
- Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience, with at least one (1) year of institutional cooking experience.
- Safe Food Handler’s Certification is required.
- Ability to work in a team environment and/or independently.
- Self-motivated and disciplined
- First Aid & CPR Certification is a definite asset.
- Good knowledge of nutrition and safe food handling
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to follow detailed instructions
- Possess a positive attitude and works well with other team members
- Able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift more than 20 pounds; work in a standing position for long periods.
- Provide an original copy of a Background Check screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
- May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
- Support for and an understanding of mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
