Description
Chaplain/Pastoral Interns integrate our community ministries and our church congregation. This year as the pandemic restrictions change, interns will initiate new programs that meet human needs and share the gospel, such as interest-based small groups, Alpha, Bible Studies, pastoral counseling, evangelism, and congregational leadership.
HOURS:
- 12 hours/week (includes Sunday hours and a flexible work week).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- A demonstration of personally knowing Jesus and active participation in spiritual disciplines and relationships in a faith community.
- Passionate for building gospel-centered relationships and building a Christian community with vulnerable neighbors experiencing poverty, immigration challenges, and addictions.
- Exercise pastoral leadership according to each intern’s calling and gifting that may include worship, preaching, teaching, evangelism, chaplaincy, and discipleship in a missional expression of church.
- Initiate and lead new programs that meet human needs and share the gospel, such as interest-based small groups.
- Develop and explore the internal life of pastoral leadership with monthly spiritual direction, while reflection in leadership praxis will be conducted in coaching sessions.
- Natural ability to come alongside and support volunteers and staff through spiritual conversations.
- A desire to be innovative, showing initiative with minimal supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:
- A degree in Biblical Studies, Pastoral Ministry, or equivalent work experience.
Experience:
- Current students seeking Supervised Ministry placements are ideal.
Required Skills/Knowledge:

Preferred Skills/Capabilities:
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers abstract
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
Due to funding requirements of Canada Summer Jobs, paid internships are available for those 15 – 30 years old and individuals must:
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
