Description
This is a permanent, part-time position based on 10-12 hours per week. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
Work Schedule: Hours will typically be scheduled throughout the week based on operational requirement; flexibility is required. Some weekend work will be required. The supervisor will set the work schedule in consultation with the incumbent.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Service Responsibilities:
- Responsible for any combination of light cleaning duties to maintain defined work areas in the ministry unit.
- Ensure the weekly upkeep of the facility i.e., empty all garbage receptacles, put garbage in dumpster and put out recycling designated garbage day and return recycling when emptied, vacuum all carpeted areas, sweep all tiled areas, wash floors and baseboards in tiled areas, clean all glass areas; windows and ledges etc. using a ladder where/when needed, dust all offices and furnishings.
- Ensure kitchen cleanliness at all times, clean and polish sinks, toilets and counter tops, mirrors, and fixtures; clean washrooms (toilets, sinks, floors), restock washrooms and hand sanitizers, and distribute received material as required.
- Wipe down all tables, chairs, and door handles, and checks, cleans, moves, arranges, and dusts furniture as required.
- Identify/report to supervisor any repairs that may require an external service provider.
- Check doors and windows to ensure building security.
- Monitor and maintain stock of regularly used items, i.e., mops, brooms, lights, supplies etc., and order/purchases as required.
- Perform minor repairs such as electrical (change light bulbs) and plumbing (unblocking toilets, troubleshooting flushing issues), reports safety concerns and major repair issues to supervisor
- Spot wash accessible walls, strip and wax floors, spot cleaning, and shampoo carpets as required.
- Ensure the Corps building is set up and ready for internal and rental groups as scheduled.
- Maintain the security of property at all times.
- Ensure the general upkeep of external property, keeping sidewalks and entrances clear of snow and ice, including salting, litter pick up and up-keep of storage shed. Weed removal, additional grounds keeping may be required such as weed whacking.
Health and Safety
- Contribute to the safety of staff, guests, customers, and clients (e.g., clear fire exits, cleans spillage; no obstacles inside/outside the building, keeping sidewalks and entrances clear of snow and ice, including salting, litter pick up etc.)
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Monitor and maintain mixed cleaner bottles for custodial use. Ensure that all bottles contain WHMIS compliant labeling.
Perform other duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of High School.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience including life skills, custodial, and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures and equipment.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety Standards.

- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
