Description
Reporting to the Bail Program Manager, this role will provide case management (Bail Supervisor) to an assigned group of clients released on Bail. In this role you will attend local court offices to interview clients/intake for bail, do a verification (risk assessment to ensure suitability for a surety) of information, present support to Justice of the Peace in Bail Court, and monitor progress, provide case management for clients once released to your supervision.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend bail court for intake of new clients as well as provide information to the court regarding the bailee
- Interview clientele and inmates at provincial detention facilities and Barrie Courthouse to ensure they meet the requirements of the program
- Fill out verification forms and verify information on each new potential client
- Meet with client as per terms of court; may require daily, weekly or monthly reporting for each client
- Write case/supervision notes for each client after each meeting
- Working with clients to mitigate their risks and connect them with community partner such as alcoholics anonymous, drug treatment programs, employment opportunities etc. for their bail life cycle
- Liaise with court officials, Crown Attorney’s, police and defense lawyers
- Meet standards as required by the Attorney General and the Ontario Association of Bail Verification Support Services (OABVSS)
- Assist clients in crisis
- Assist clients with information on the judicial process and on community support
- Assist with referrals as required
- Complete monthly and quarterly reports as required/needed
- Create and maintain list of reports required for health and safety compliance purposes Daily log entries
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- Diploma in the social services field with experience in Correctional & Justice Services
- CPR/First Aid and CPI an asset
Experience:
- 2 years’ experience working with correctional clients
- Previous experience working in corrections and case management considered an asset
- Previous experience working with people in the correctional justice system
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Ability to adequately provide counsel and support to bail clients
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in English and French would be an asset
- Proficient computer skills using Word, Excel and other office software including data bases
- Provide quality supervision
- Organizational and communication skills
- Valid G Class Driver’s License and vehicle an asset
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility
- Knowledge of the community considered an asset
- Able to build and strengthen relationships with the community
- Understanding and knowledge of the CJS and processes
- Willingness to support the Salvation Army’s Mission and Values Statements
Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers abstract
- Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually
