        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

The Edmonton Christmas Kettle Campaign Assistant position is a short-term contract position to support volunteer engagement during the Christmas Kettle Campaign.

 

September 7, 2021 to November 7, 2021: Up to 20 hours per week. Monday to Saturday.

November 8, 2021 to January 7, 2022:  35 hours per week. Monday to Saturday.

Day and Evening hours, including weekend work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the recruitment process for general volunteers including interviewing, completing reference checks and associated administrative tasks
  • Support the recruitment process for the Christmas Kettle Campaign volunteers including:
  • Contacting past volunteers and groups to fill Kettle Campaign shifts
  • Recruiting new volunteers and groups to fill Kettle Campaign shifts
  • Using Better Impact software to manage volunteer engagement
  • Support organizational and administrative tasks including:
  • Securing Christmas Kettle venues
  • Organizing Christmas Kettle supplies and equipment
  • Provide support and supervision to Christmas Kettle Area Team Leads during the Campaign (November 12 – Dec 24)
  • Performs other related responsibilities as may be assigned by the CRC Resourcing Manager and/or the CRC Executive Director
  • Reports directly to the CRC Resourcing Manager or in their absence the CRC Executive Director

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent decision making and organizational skills
  • Strong computer and software skills in MS Office (Word and Excel)
  • Experience working and/or managing volunteer management software (i.e. Better Impact)
  • Experience with volunteer recruitment and engagement
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of volunteer and organizational information
  • Willingness and ability to be flexible
  • Working knowledge of The Salvation Army Kettle Campaign is an asset
  • Possesses a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license and maintains a clean driver’s abstract. A reliable personally owned vehicle required for travel around the City of Edmonton and local area.
  • A Criminal Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required
  • Willing to wear Salvation Army logo and branded wear.
  • Willing to adhere to Salvation Army policies, procedures, and principles.
