KSAC Executive Director Job Description
The Executive Director upholds and promotes the Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre’s grounding values, philosophies, vision, and mission, ensuring the Centre contributes to the building of safe and healing communities by providing compassionate, anti-oppressive, and responsive services and supports to those affected by sexual violence and by educating and engaging our communities to influence social change and to reduce and prevent sexual violence.
The Executive Director is the principal representative of the Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre to all stakeholders, including clients, supporters, and funders. The Executive Director maintains strong and collaborative working relationships with partners in our local and sector-wide communities, and represents the Centre’s interests to municipal, provincial, and federal governments.
The Executive Director maintains a supportive, inclusive, and empowering organizational culture and provides leadership, direction, and inspiration to the staff and volunteers, thereby facilitating consistent execution of the mission of the Centre, the Centre’s contractual obligations, and the short-term and long-term strategic and operational plans of the Centre.
The Executive Director oversees the management of the finances, facilities, assets, and administration of the Centre, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable legislation while developing the Centre’s services and initiatives to their full potential. Working collaboratively with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director works to continuously foster and ensure the Centre’s strength, sustainability, and success. This position is primarily based in Peterborough, with some travel to the Counties of Northumberland, City of Kawartha Lakes, and
Haliburton.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Board Governance: Works with the board in order to fulfill the organization mission.
- Responsible for leading KSAC in a manner that supports and guides the Centre’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
- Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health
of the Centre.
- Responsible for fundraising and developing other revenues necessary to support KSAC’s mission.
- Responsible for the fiscal integrity of KSAC, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and quarterly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the Centre.
- Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the Centre in a positive financial position.
- Responsible for managing relationships with funders including the fulfilling of requirements, reporting duties, and other matters identified in said agreements.
Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with the board and staff to ensure that the mission is
fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.
- Responsible for implementation of KSAC’s programs that carry out the Centre’s mission.
- Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that KSAC can successfully fulfill its Mission into the future.
- Responsible for the enhancement of KSAC’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.
Organization Operations: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the
operations of the Centre are appropriate.
- Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff.
- Responsible for effective administration of KSAC operations.
- Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the Centre.
- Responsible for supervision of (5-6*) direct reports which include the permanent positions of Clinical Supervisor, Prevention Education Supervisor, and Administration and Volunteer supervisor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Visioning: understanding trends in the sector and community and being future forward in your thinking to promote continued health and sustainability of the organization. Strategic planning and implementation of change management.
- Leadership: Work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising, and to increase the overall visibility of the Centre. Attend board meetings and contribute to board committees. Establish employment and administrative policies for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the Centre.
- Program Management: Developing, maintaining, and having general oversight of programs and services that meet the needs of the community. This includes goal setting and regular evaluation of programs.
- Personnel Management: Training, supervising, coaching, collaborating and delegating with Centre staff. This includes establishing clear job descriptions, creating a positive team environment, and being responsive to staff needs.
- Financial Management: Planning and operation of annual budget, engage in fundraising and development of other revenues, oversight of good bookkeeping practices, grant writing, and administering funds according to the board approved budget
- Risk analysis: Review and approval of all contracts for services, evaluation of potential assets and/or liabilities to any project/proposal/strategy, and identification and assessment of any potential threats to the Centre’s reputation, financial security, and/or success
- Communication Management: Serves as the primary spokesperson to the Centre’s constituents, the media, and the general public. Establishes and maintains relationships with various organizations and key stakeholders in the community. Promotes community awareness of the centre mission/vision/values, participation in networking and community relations on behalf of the Centre, facilitates a marketing and communication plan that lets the community know about the activities and direction of the Centre.
- Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary degree related to the field/work
- Eight (8) years of experience working in human services field (the not-for-profit sector preferred) and demonstrated competencies in and knowledge of feminist, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed practice.
- Understanding of the intersectionalities that contribute to sexual and gender-based violence and affect the lived experiences of survivors, including knowledge of and/or experience working with decolonizing and anti-oppressive/anti-racist frameworks
- Transparent and high integrity of leadership, with experience managing teams
- Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting, with an understanding of the requirements for responsible financial oversight.
- Strong organizational abilities, including planning, time-management, delegating, program development, and task facilitation.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with an emphasis on collaborative work, team building and team cohesion skills.
- High level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey the Centre’s strategic future to the staff, board, volunteer, funders, community partners, and donors.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, public speaking skills an asset
- Strong work ethic with an ability to be purposeful as well as adaptable
- Strong ability to self-motivate and self-care through challenging situations (crisis management) and challenging work (change-management)
- Comfort with office technology (e.g., intermediate MS Office skills, client database)
- Up-to-date Criminal Record and Vulnerable Persons Police Check required.
- Some evening and weekend work as well as some travel will be required.
