Financial Aid Advisor

Role Profile

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Advisor supports the administration of the Canada-Ontario Student Loan Program (OSAP) through the consistent and effective application of MCU policies and guidelines. As a first point of contact for financial aid issues and questions, the incumbent will provide guidance and advice to students on funding programs, eligibility requirements as well as identifying opportunities for intervention in the MCU financial aid approval process. In addition, the incumbent fields general inquiries from parents, partners and other third parties, while maintaining required confidentiality of individual student records; provides advice to students and makes recommendations on how to use the budget calculator; processes OSAP applications and supporting documentation, monitors the OSAP portal to support the timely release of funds; and identifies funding applications for possible review/reassessment. The incumbent works closely with the Financial Aid Officers and the Manager to contribute to the successful operations of the financial aid office.


Minimum Qualifications

Education

The successful candidate will possess a 2 year diploma in Public Relations, Accounting or Business or equivalent.

Experience and Skills

A minimum of 3 years experience in a customer service environment that includes working with customers in difficult situations is also a requirement. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to perform financial transactions and basic arithmetic. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain policies and procedures, consistent attention to detail, time management skills and the ability to work effectively with the Microsoft Office Suite, email, and telephone are required. The successful candidate will also maintain strict confidentiality regarding student records and financial information.
