        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver executes ongoing food rescue activities to enable programs such as Nourishing Hope Hampers, Breakfast Connect, and seasonal/special events.

The Food Rescue Operations Associate assists the Food Services Coordinator and Community Ministries Director in the day-to-day operations of food recovery, preparation, and procurement logistics. The ideal candidate is highly organized, an effective communicator, and a go-getter with the ability to work quickly in time-sensitive scenarios. You can make things happen!

Hours:

  • 06:30-14:00, Monday to Friday
  • Jan. 4th, 2022 – April 22nd

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate volunteers and assist the Food Coordinator in food rescue, food donation procurement and distribution to community partners.
  • Record, track, analyze and provide actionable insights on food rescue data.
  • Lead volunteers and help with daily food donation organizing, measuring, packaging, and distributing of Nourishing Hope Hampers.
  • Work with volunteers to prepare meals for the Breakfast Connect Program.
  • Assist with food procurement through partnership development and community outreach.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Due to the nature of the ECO Canada & Canada Summer Jobs Grant, applicants must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and be 30 years of age or under.

Education/Certifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program, preferably in commerce, nutrition, or related fields.
  • Class 5 driver’s license. A Class 7 driver’s license with an excellent driving record from ICBC can be considered.

Experience/Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Able to perform moderate lifting (50 lbs) and physical labour for long stretches.
  • Adequate experience and an understanding of process optimization.
  • Ability to adapt and prioritize many different tasks and initiatives.
  • Current knowledge of issues and trends including best practices in the enhancement of quality of life and food security.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and highly developed interpersonal, communication, multitasking, and time management skills.
  • Ability to utilize related equipment such as various word processing including MS Office applications and email.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English to establish and maintain positive relationships with community partners.
  • Able to work with a team consisting of staff and volunteers in a busy, fast-paced environment.
  • Quick learner & self-starter.
  • Empathetic individual with the ability to work cooperatively, patiently, and effectively with others.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Experience with event planning, an asset.
  • Customer service experience, an asset.
  • Food Safe training, an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Link2Feed platform, an asset.
