Description
The House Support Worker provides essential support to the emergency shelter clients staying at The Stevenson House.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cleans shelter rooms, washrooms, kitchen, lounge and common areas.
- Packing up client’s belongings and prepping beds and rooms for new clients.
- Monitors the environment and clients/residents to ensure safety and security; completes regular client/resident status.
- Ensures client supervision and adherence to rules and policies.
- Provides laundry services for the shelter and shelter clients.
- Acts as a positive role model for clients by developing professional interpersonal relationships that promote dignity and respect.
- Light food preparation and serving to clients at mealtimes.
- Conducts all required shift change procedures prior to and after shift change.
- Maintains required documentation and shelter log.
- Performs basic building maintenance. Collects and disposes of refuse and maintains clean refuse area; performs spot cleaning as required.
- Monitors appropriate behavior; ensures the rules are followed.
- Provides orientation to new clients.
- Provides conflict resolution and crisis de-escalation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- The successful job applicant will have completed high school, plus a diploma in a related field (Human Services, Social Services).
- NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.
Experience:
- More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including, experience with frontline work in a social service setting providing direct client care.
The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):
- Universal precautions
- Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
- Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)
- Non-violent Crisis intervention training
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- A clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
