Reporting to the Director of Learning Support, the Inclusive Education Coordinator is responsible for the leadership and implementation of evidenced based practices and interventions which ensure a continuum of support and services are provided to students with diverse learning needs. As a member of the Learning Support team, the Inclusive Education Coordinator will collaborate with other members of the Education Services leadership team to ensure an integrated and holistic approach to supports and services to schools. The Inclusive Education Coordinator provides leadership and support to the ongoing work of school based and divisional teams.
DUTIES:
Developing and maintaining necessary forms and documentation for processes involved in the assessment and identification of students with diverse learning needs
Pre-referral consultation with staff or parents
Collaborating and supporting schools in implementing recommendations arising from assessments in order to implement strategies and interventions for improving all levels of supportive programming (universal, targeted and intensive)
Collaboration with students (where appropriate) staff and parents to increase capacity for successful inclusion opportunities for students with diverse learning needs
Support the evolution of divisional programs and interventions to meet the needs of the changing student populations within schools
Support transition planning between grades, programs, schools and community placements
Provide leadership and support the development of IPPs, Learning Plans, behaviour, safety and emergency medical plans
Support capacity building cohorts related to various interventions and effective teaching practices (ie: Level B Assessment, behavior support, IPP development) and school-based intervention teams (behavior, learning support leads)
Oversee and work with a specialized team in supporting students/children Pre-K to Grade 12 with complex and severe disabling conditions. Disciplines represented on this team include Speech and Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Behavioral Specialists, Social Work, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Deaf and Hard of Hearing supports, Blind and Low Vision Specialists
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Certificated teacher in the province of Alberta, with a Master’s Degree in Inclusive Education or a related field
Five or more years of experience in the Public Education field with demonstrated skill in inclusive education practice
Knowledge of the current principles and practices related to diverse learning needs, inclusive education, and behavioral support/intervention
Specific training or experience with Positive Behavior Supports, Collaborative Problem Solving and Trauma informed practice
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of psychoeducational assessments
Neurosequential Model for Education is an asset
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain collaborative professional relationships
Ability and skills in working with stakeholders: students, parents, staff, therapists and community partners
Ability to develop and lead collaborative groups
Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Must be flexible and adaptable to meet the emerging needs arising from the fluid context of Public Education and inclusive practices
Ability to maintain competence, professionalism and remain calm in challenging and high stress situations
Proven ability to adopt a solution-focused, collaborative approach to challenges
High degree of adaptability, empathy and creative problem solving
