The salary range for this position is:
Recruitment range: $52,886 – $59,527 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

Performance range: starting salary to max of $69,132 is available through annual performance increases.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Finance and Student Services, the International Student Advisor (Advisor) works with the Division’s many international students, providing specialist advice and referrals that support students’ planning and decision-making as it relates to their studies and life choices. The day-to-day work of the Advisor includes responding to a broad range of queries from students, parents, instructors and staff. The Advisor is also responsible for advising-related administration.

The Advisor holds a RCIC or RISAS designation and problem solves a variety of complex immigration issues requiring considerable knowledge of the immigration rules and regulations and a deep understanding of Uvic’s policies and procedures. The Advisor is a subject matter expert and provides advice and guidance to students who are making immigration decisions impacting their educational goals.

The Advisor is also responsible for developing and delivering training for staff at DCS as well as providing input into the strategic long-term vision and assessment practices for ISS. As a result of the nature of the duties and responsibilities of this position, occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Job Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree and 3 to 5 years related advising experience that includes using student record systems and MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) effectively.

Certification from Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) OR Regulated International Student Immigration Adviser (RISIA) is required for this role.

Related experience communicating with students, including creating a virtual presence through the use of websites, social media and video production.

Equivalent combinations of education, training and/or experience may be considered.

Preference may be given to applicants with experience or thorough knowledge of the University of Victoria’s ISS programs, policies and procedures.
