Position: Supervisor, Sustainable Operations
Organization: City of Orillia
Location: Orillia, Ontario

The City of Orillia has an opening for a full-time position of Supervisor, Sustainable Operations in the Property and Environmental Sustainability Division of the Environment and Infrastructure Services Department.

DUTIES

  • Responsible for managing the City’s participation in the Partner’s for Climate Protection Program (PCP) to develop Corporate and Community Climate Change Action Plans.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with other City Divisions, Departments, and stakeholders to meet Program targets. Participation in public consultation and community stakeholder meetings is essential.
  • Responsible for developing and overseeing the City’s energy management processes and Energy Management Plan, in accordance with O.Reg. 507/18, related regulations, energy procurement and best practices.
  • Manage project plans, estimates, and forecasts with sustainability, energy conservation and/or asset lifecycle benefits. Manage facility projects through the design, tendering, construction, and commissioning period.
  • Liaise with City Divisions, Departments and stakeholders to identify and strengthen the sustainability of City policies, programs and operations, including but not limited to green procurement, asset lifecycles, facility operations, and fleet management.
  • Assist in developing and updating the Department’s Asset Management database, with a focus on the environmental, energy and/or lifecycle implications of asset renewal.
  • Identify and coordinate funding opportunities for City projects, such as grants and incentives.
  • Develop robust communications plans, public education and outreach programs to build awareness of the City’s sustainability initiatives.
  • Research new and emerging sustainability opportunities and recommend appropriate actions to integrate findings into City projects, programs and/or policies.
  • Oversee the work of sustainability coordinators, interns, students or similar, providing guidance and direction, as required.
  • Stakeholder consultation and community meetings will require project work after-hours and/or on weekends. Weekly hours will be adjusted accordingly, where possible, to accommodate.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum three year diploma or degree in Environmental Studies, Energy Management, Engineering, Sustainability Planning, or similar.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, structural and building envelop, controls and management systems. Certified Energy Management (CEM) designation or similar is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of four years of experience developing and implementing sustainability and facility initiatives and projects, in a municipality or large, complex organization.
  • Demonstration of strong project management skillset to effectively track and coordinate multiple, complex projects, including various stakeholders, timelines, budgets and scope. Project Management Professional (PMP) designation an asset. Excellent computer skills using MS Office Suite including Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Possess excellent leadership, time management, organizational, supervisory and communication skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Possess a valid class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s licence with an acceptable driver abstract.
  • An acceptable Criminal Record Check is required for this position at the incumbent’s expense prior to the commencement date.

Compensation for this position is $78,835 to $92,226 (January 2020 rates), based on a 35-hour work week with the flexibility to work from home, plus a comprehensive benefits package. Applications will be accepted until May 3, 2021 at noon.
