Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Manager, Education & Development responsible to supervise the Long Term Care and Senior Services (LTCSS) In-Home Education Coordinators in the planning, design, development, delivery and evaluation of staff education. The individual collaborates with Long Term Care and Senior Services (LTCSS) management teams to provide consistent and high quality education in consideration of safety, best practices, and Ministry compliance requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)
Supervision of the In-Home Education Coordinators including work planning & performance management.
1. Learning and Development Functions:
- Supervision of research, planning, design, curriculum development and delivery of learning plans, modules and evaluations for LTCSS staff in accordance with applicable guidelines, regulations, policies and procedures and other applicable legislation.
- Plan and develop LTCSS education programs and materials for delivery by In-Home Education Coordinators.
- Delivery of Corporate education / orientation modules.
- Plan and develop customized training modules, using a variety of learning tools, for new and refresher/remediation courses.
- Develop and regularly update training manuals and materials to reflect practice, program and legislative changes.
- Conduct needs analysis with multiple stakeholders to assess appropriate education products and contracts for service and makes recommendations to management.
- Seek cost-effective expertise within the local community to meet pre-determined education needs.
- Act as a coach to staff and In-Home Education Coordinators.
- Supervise LTCSS new hire orientation process and collaborate with related Departments to support recruitment and retention activities within LTCSS.
- Identify training/continuous learning opportunities related to all facets of Long-Term Care and Senior Services’ operations/program delivery and develop and recommend solutions to the management team.
- Development of clinical remediation plans in consultation with the Professional Standards Supervisors and Long-Term Care and Senior Services’ Operations.
- Oversite of education coverage within the County of Simcoe LTCSS homes and supervision of educator schedules.
2. Evaluation, Reporting and Research Activities:
- Research and implement appropriate tools to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs; prepare summary reports on participant feedback; make recommendations or revisions, as required.
- Complete special projects associated with the department and other training, research, and communications.
- Audit/Observe frontline staff documentation and/or care delivery for compliance with standards, policies & procedures.
- Oversight of online learning management system utilization and responsible for program reporting of attendance and completion rates to management.
- Participate in best practice research to keep abreast of trends and developments in clinical patient management, adult learning and Long-Term Care and Senior Services related education and equipment.
- Provide oversight of clinical research initiatives ensuring quality data collection and timely and appropriate communication of performance metrics.
3. Liaison, Communication and Customer Service Activities:
- Promote effective communication and public relations and work in co-operation with internal and external staff, management, and vendors.
- Education lead for staff recruitment, liaising with operations & human resources.
- Act as a program representative and participate on various internal and external committees, task forces and focus groups.
- Provide training programs and presentations to stakeholders to ensure alignment with services and programs across division.
- Ensure that services provided meet customer service standards.
4. Other Duties:
- Maintain current professional practice and knowledge of adult learning and development principles and application.
- Perform other duties as assigned, in accordance with department objectives.
- May occasionally be required to respond to emergency situations outside of normal business hours, as related to the Divisional Emergency Plan.
- Participate in and demonstrate an understanding of Division safety principles and practices into all day to day activities. Follow all safe work practices and procedures and immediately communicate any activity or action which may constitute a risk to management.
- Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act in performing duties in a safe manner and follow all County of Simcoe Health & Safety policies, procedures and legislation.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION
- Currently certified and qualified to work as a licensed Registered Nurse (unrestricted) with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver & evaluate training programs and services.
- Excellent problem solving & instructional/presentation skills.
- Knowledge of the legislation, guidelines and regulations as they relate to the position and responsibilities of the Long Term Care/Seniors Services sector.
- Knowledge of, and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self-management, accountability, flexibility and adaptability.
- Knowledge of, and demonstrated ability using a variety of learning medium such as electronic presentation formats and technologies, integrated multimedia and on-line learning technologies, video conferencing and didactic classroom design.
- Advanced knowledge of computer software applications Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPointand Outlook.
- Analytical, research, planning, co-ordination and project management skills with ability to work independently.
- Ability to deal cooperatively and effectively with all levels of staff, unions/employee/client groups and ability to foster cooperative/collaborative working relationships.
- Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.
- As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing, as per Public Health requirements.
- Proof of annual CPR recertification.
- Must have access to a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible related positions, including three (3) years’ frontline nursing experience, preferably in Long Term Care,
- Minimum two (2) years teaching / education experience in health care environment including program design, development and evaluation. Long Term Care education delivery experience an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in program development including business case preparation to identify & present program needs including the design, implementation & analysis of program effectiveness.
- Experience in working with related health and/or educational organizations with participation or leadership of inter-agency teams.
EFFORT
- Will require frequent periods of concentration, mental and visual attentiveness for report writing and analyses, research, and training facilitation.
- Some physical effort required when transporting equipment & setting up training sessions.
- Mental concentration required when planning, developing and delivering training sessions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Regular office and classroom environment yet may be required to work outside normal business hours to support operations
- Requirement to travel within Simcoe County to all LTCSS facilities.
- May be required to work during outbreak and/or emergency situations within Long-Term Care Senior Services facilities as required.
Salary Grade
$81,978.00 – $98,373.00
