        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

At The Salvation Army Mountberry Adult Day Service the Program Assistant is accountable to the Business Services Manager to provide excellent personal care to residents. Primary functions include providing care according to the established client care plan including all components of activities of daily living and supporting participation in recreational and therapeutic activities.

The Program Assistant is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the Salvation Army’s core values, ensure client safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence while responsible for planning, implementation and evaluation of programs and services provided to the clients.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Strategy:

  • Provides for personal care in accordance with established policy, the client plan of care and within the scope of practice of a PSW
  • Contributes to and follows a plan of care to meet clients’ assessed needs
  • Is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete records of personal care delivered
  • Demonstrates a professional working knowledge of all equipment used in the delivery of nursing care
  • Follows all corporate policies and procedures
  • Seeks direction from the Business Services Manager when client need exceeds experience or scope of practice
  • Observes, reports, records resident conditions and follows care plans
  • Assists in maintaining an environment appropriate to meet clients’ individualized needs

Essential Duties:

Toileting

  • Provides thorough pericare following elimination of urine or feces
  • Follows toileting schedule as per care plan responds promptly to requests for toileting or change of incontinence products to prevent skin breakdown

Nutrition          

  • Feeds as necessary considering clients’ preferences and diet restriction
  • Provides a safe and pleasant dining experience
  • Assists clients as necessary with individually wrapped portions of food, peeling oranges, eggs in shells, cutting meat, etc.

May conduct and assist with planned programs in response to individual and group needs and interests

  • Assist with the preparation of the program’s physical environment and maintenance of the activity area
  • Contribute to the development, coordination of annual strategic long-range programs and fundraising initiatives
  • Complete and submit incident reports

Leadership:

  • Promotes positive work environment and teamwork by following the Mountberry Adult Day Service’s policies and procedures
  • Puts clients’ needs first

Financial Accountability:

  • Ensures appropriate utilization of all supplies and equipment
  • Utilizes assigned equipment and supplies appropriately as per policies and procedures

Human Resources:

  • Participates in an effective orientation, and performance management process in accordance with The Salvation Army Mountberry Adult Day Services standards for all employees within the day programs
  • Identifies day program’s learning needs and communicates to leadership within the home
  • Models positive working relationships with the management, co-workers
  • Actively participates in the annual educational program for the staff of the day programs
  • Demonstrates relevant understanding of and compliance with legislative knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Act, as it applies to the direct care staff

Perform other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a casual relief “elect to work” position with no standard weekly hours of work.

There are no guaranteed hours; work will be offered on an as needed basis.”

Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet program requirements

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • PSW Certification or Social Services Diploma or equivalent
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certification.
  • Current Safe Food Handling Certification
  • Montessori for Dementia Care certificate would be an asset.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum of one (1) of prior work experience working with cognitively impaired/frail elderly populations
  •  Current Gentle Persuasive Approach training
  • U-First Training would be an asset
  • Previous experience conducting craft, music, art, fitness, etc., skills

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English
  • Demonstrate effective working relationships within a team environment and work collaboratively with all staff and volunteers
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and exercise good judgment
  • Self-motivated and disciplined
  • Communicate in a sensitive and compassionate manner
  • A good listener with a genuine concern for the client/participant. Be able to offer sound advice that can meet the client/participant’s expectations
  • Participate in mandatory orientation training, departmental staff meetings, on-going professional development and training
  • Participate in regular supervision and performance appraisal process
  • Ensure all certifications are maintained as required
  • Represent the organization in a positive, professional and engaging manner
  • Work in compliance with the OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, own vehicle/insurance and a current original copy of driver’s abstract, which is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion is required
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
