Position Description

Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in Epigenetic Control of Heart Development and Regeneration

The Translational Medicine Program at The SickKids Research Institute is seeking an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to study the function of chromatin modifiers in the control of heart maturation and regeneration. With the direction of principal supervisor Dr. Paul Delgado Olguín, you will work closely with affiliated staff at SickKids using mouse models to uncover the mechanisms limiting the regenerative capacity of the mature heart. This research will give you the opportunity to implement experimental strategies to promote restoration of myocardium lost in the damaged heart i.e., after myocardial infarction.

The Delgado-Olguín Lab combines genetic manipulation with phenotyping, genome-wide and molecular biology approaches to uncover the function of epigenetic regulators of gene expression in the development of cardiovascular cell lineages. We apply our new knowledge about the control of developmental processes to investigate fundamental aspects of cardiovascular disease. Our aims are to push the boundaries of our understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms controlling development of the cardiovascular system and the initiation and progression of cardiovascular disease.

The position is immediately available.

Requirements/assets:
PhD in a relevant area (e.g., molecular biology, genetics, developmental biology).

Experience in research related to mouse genetics, phenotyping of the heart, genome-wide approaches and analysis, gene regulation.

Experience preparing research manuscripts.

Ability to work independently and as a team member and meet deadlines.

We offer:
Initial contract will be for a period of two years, with the possibility of extension.

Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience.

Benefits package, which includes extended health and dental coverage.

Possibility to disseminate research findings through publications and presentations in seminars and conferences.

The Research Institute offers multiple opportunities for career development and additional training as part of the Research Training Centre.

Employment Type: Full-time Temporary 2 Year Contract with Possible Extension, 1.0 FTE
