        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

This position establishes and maintains community partnerships to build the gift-in-kind donor base for the warehouse and distribution centre. In addition, this position will be responsible for organization and promotion of the Christmas Kettle Campaign in Edmonton and surrounding area.

 

Additional job information:  Typically this job is Monday to Friday; however the ability to be flexible in work hours and willingness to adjust hours of work to meet work demands is a requirement of the job.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Community Partnerships

Building and strengthening community partnerships throughout Edmonton and surrounding area and expanding donor relations of gift-in-kind donations from companies and organizations.  Representing The Salvation Army CRC at community group as required. Promoting the Christmas Kettle Campaign with community partnerships.

Staff Management

Ensuring the distribution centre and the kettle campaign is adequately staffed (inclusive of volunteers), with qualified staff and that staff have the resources to compete their tasks.  Recruiting, orienting, training and developing and supporting staff.  Effectively utilizing and supporting volunteers.  Ensuring compliance with all legislation and workplace policies and practices

Administrative

Assisting Executive Director with preparation of the annual operational budget.  Assisting in the development of online training videos for recruitment and training of kettle volunteers.  Providing accurate daily reports.  Posting daily Christmas Kettle Campaign updates on Edmonton CRC social media accounts.

Christmas Kettle Campaign

Overseeing the annual Christmas kettle fundraising campaign.  This includes identifying and securing existing and new kettle locations throughout Edmonton and surrounding area; arranging for pre-approved kettle locations where our public relations can do interviews regarding our kettle campaign; ensuring proper handling of money and deposits; ensuring Kettle supplies are available and delivered; ensuring all health and safety standards are followed at all locations.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Completion of formal post-secondary in fundraising or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract and a reliable personally owned vehicle

 

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory experience in non-for-profit environment
  • Experience being involved in running a kettle campaign is preferred
  • Knowledge and comfort with operating debit machines and tap to donate machines
  • Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army – its mission, culture, and values

 

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Good in person and written communication skills
  • Awareness and ability to work with the vast cultural makeup of the City of Edmonton
  • Able to problem solve
  • Able to work in a high stress environment on occassions
  • Leadership skills and provide ability to train and coach staff and volunteers
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of organization, attention to detail and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of donor and organizational information
  • Comfortable with Office 365 suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint
  • Willing to wear Salvation Army brandware
  • Willing to adhere to The Salvation Army code of conduct and confidentiality policies and other policies and procedures
  • Able to lift 20 lbs
  • May be required to stand for extended periods of time

Valid criminal record check satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
