This role is on the Customer Information Delivery team. As a Software Engineer on the team, you will contribute to the platforms that allow us to interact with our millions of customers across Canada and the United States. Our Information Delivery platforms power everything from emails and mobile alerts, to changing account settings and adjusting balances. Our technology is all built on AWS, with a focus on serverless architecture.

Data drives our business, and data engineering is a major part of this role, with the opportunity to build data Infrastructure from ground-up. 

The Ideal Candidate will be:

  • Curious: You ask why, you explore, you’re not afraid to blurt out your disruptive idea. 
  • A Wrangler: You know how to programmatically extract data from a database or an API, bring it through a transformation or two, and convert into a human-readable form (Quicksight, Tableau, etc.).
  • A Stickler for good software: You have a reverence for DevOps and don’t consider any piece of code complete without a thorough testing suite.
  • Creative: Big, undefined problems and petabytes of data don’t frighten you. You’re used to working with abstract data and you love discovering new narratives in unmined territories.
  • Proactive: You will want to share your knowledge with your peers and contribute back to inner/open source projects which you might consume.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in designing and building features with a strong focus on user experience, engineering excellence and software craftsmanship.
  • Partner with business and product teams to bring customer experiences to life.
  • Developing highly scalable data pipelines, tools, and products to enable the analyst community to fully leverage the power of AWS

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative field.
  • At least 2 years of experience building software following at least some software engineering best practices (well tested, CI/CD pipelines, SOLID principles, built with maintainability and extensibility in mind).
  • At least 2 years of experience in programming languages for large scale data analysis (Python, Scala, or Java).
  • At least 2 year of experience with relational databases and programming in SQL (aggregations, complex joins, query optimization).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, etc.).
  • Experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum/Kanban) managing own workload and tasks effectively through issue tracking systems (JIRA/GitHub/etc).
  • Basic statistics knowledge such as t-test, confusion matrix, causation vs correlation.
  • UI experience, creating a good user experience via UI (dashboard in Quicksight) to live on top of data infrastructure.
