        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the Chatham-Kent Ministries during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accountabilities:

  • Assist with the recruitment, orientation, and supervision of Christmas Kettle Campaign volunteers.
  • Contact churches, schools, businesses and other organizations to volunteer at kettles.
  • Maintain an accurate list of volunteer information.
  • Contact volunteers and schedule coverage for kettle shifts.
  • Host at a kettle as required ensuring necessary coverage for breaks, late arrivals, absences, etc.
  • Ensure that kettle locations are staffed and have adequate supplies of literature, etc.
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites.
  • Coordinate the delivery and pick-up of kettles to/from sites daily, ensuring the security of donations.
  • May deliver and pick-up kettles in an emergency situation.
  • Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of toys and food for the Christmas program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
  • Assist with pick-ups of food and toy donations from community donors using program vehicle.
  • Assist with set up and take down of toy and food Christmas hamper distribution centre.
  • Provide assistance with sorting toy donations.
  • Post campaign assist with retrieval of equipment/supplies from kettle locations and prepare an overall report of the campaign to be submitted to the CFS manager.
  • Record statistical data in a clear, organized and accurate manner.
  • Perform other position related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a temporary full-time position based on 40 hours per week.
  • Kettle Campaign normal hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per the Christmas Kettle Campaign operational requirements.
  • Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
  • Local travel may be associated with this position.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Completed High School or equivalent.
  • Prior related experience is an asset.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

 

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Experience in office administration.
  • Experience with general office equipment and must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL).

 

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours including evenings and Saturdays
  • Ability to represent The Salvation Army positive and professional manner in the community
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Honest, courteous and punctual; represent the organization in a positive, professional and engaging manner.
